Tackling Global Demand for Kubernetes Backup, DR, and App Mobility
Get your ‘Kube’ on at KubeCon and CloudNativeCon Europe 2020
Kasten is geared up for another KubeCon and CloudNativeCon Europe 2020! We’re excited to take part in the CNCF’s first virtual event and look forward to seeing everyone at our digital booth, Start-Up Hall A. As one of the industry’s only Kubnernetes-native backup, disaster recovery and application mobility technologies, Kasten is thrilled to be part of the evolving cloud native ecosystem and to be ushering in a movement towards a more secure and resilient Kubernetes-native infrastructure and operations.
The global adoption of containers and Kubernetes is booming, especially in parts of Europe. As a result, the increase in the use of DevOps methodologies plus the deployment of cloud-native technologies is having a profound impact on innovation and business transformation. As businesses find their footing in the cloud native world, demand for Kubernetes-native solutions that address key “Day 2” operational challenges like backup, disaster recovery and the portability of Kubernetes applications in production is surging. We’re thrilled to be able to meet the demands of this unique market need at a critical time when any level of business disruption can be crippling.
To address these Day 2 challenges, we’re unveiling new capabilities in our flagship solution, the K10 Enterprise Data Management platform, that helps businesses scale their cloud native infrastructure and Kubernetes applications. These new capabilities will support companies’ global business growth and enable them to ensure compliance with regional data sovereignty laws, including GDPR - a must when dealing with data across multiple clouds and regions.
We’re not the only ones extolling the virtues of Kubernetes. A recent 451 Group report said a Kubernetes-native approach to security, data and application protection can reduce or eliminate some up-front challenges by using an automated, policy-based model. Portability is an additional major benefit of a containerized approach; it provides the ability to move applications across namespaces, clusters, regions, infrastructure providers or even different Kubernetes distributions.
Kasten has seen a rapid increase in demand for automated data management capabilities that can support operations across growing deployments of cloud-native applications. K10’s powerful automation workflows supports increasing scale and productivity gains to ensure that these capabilities can extend across all major Kubernetes distributions, both on-premises and public clouds. K10 solves the portability challenge and also helps overcome the IT skills gap that has become prevalent in Europe as much as it is elsewhere in the world.
To that end, Kasten’s approach to Kubernetes data management is making measurable gains for our customers. Recently, one of our large enterprise customers showed us how just two of its operations team members were able to migrate and backup more than 170 diverse applications using Kasten K10 over a single weekend - pretty impressive!
Addressing the Needs of Global Customers
Kasten’s policy-based approach to Kubernetes data management is one of the major benefits we deliver for organizations faced with increasingly complex cloud-native deployments as the result of business growth and transformation, regardless of staffing and scale. Because of this, our customers select K10 for its easy to use backup operations, intuitive graphical interface, and cross-platform support for multiple Kubernetes distributions and built-in support for modern databases.
For example, Demodern, a global creative technology agency, found that having separate backups for each customer helped ensure that each client had their own isolated environment in case of needed disaster recovery - K10 made that possible with its very simple setup. The team also reported that K10 is incredibly useful for its developers who need to set up their own environments or have an on-demand production setup at the ready to greatly accelerate their development cycles.
Similarly, Visma, a Sweden-based enterprise software provider needed a modern backup solution to ensure smooth operations for Kubernetes-native applications, while giving customers the choice of using private or public cloud solutions. Deploying the Kasten K10 data management platform provided them with the flexibility and the ease of use needed to ensure its Kubernetes applications are consistently backed up in a secure, policy-driven manner.
